Anterior Segment
Physicians
provide consultation and management of patients with a wide variety
of anterior segment diseases of the conjunctiva and cornea, and conditions
requiring corneal transplantation. Special studies available include
external and slit lamp photography, keratoscopy, computerized corneal
topography and Orbscan ®, corneal pachymetry, endothelial photography, ultrasound
axial length and lens power determinations, iris fluorescein angiography,
and potential acuity and glare testing.
Contact Lens
The evaluation
and management of all therapeutic and cosmetic contact lens needs
are provided. Referred contact lens fittings include special rigid
and soft lenses for high astigmatism, anisometropia, aphakia, corneal
scars, keratoconus, penetrating keratoplasty, radial keratotomy, any
other irregular corneal surface, or bandage/collagen shields. Cosmetic
lens options include all types of soft, disposable, rigid, toric and
bifocal lens designs. Corneal topography is commonly incorporated
for difficult and therapeutic contact lens management.
Glaucoma
Consultations,
second opinion and management of patients with glaucoma are offered.
Special studies include Humphrey automated visual field testing, Goldman
perimetry, serial tonometry, optic nerve disc analysis with optical
coherence tomography, nerve fiber layer photography and stereo
optic nerve photography. Argon and ND-YAG lasers are available for
treatment of secondary membranes, angle closure and chronic glaucoma.
Inpatient Ophthalmology
Consultation
Patients have
access to diagnostic exams and management of ocular problems encountered
during the inpatient stay. Examinations to establish suspected eye
involvement could also be performed to assist primary care physicians
in diagnosis.
Laser Vision
Correction
Comprehensive
evaluation, consultation and treatment of patients electing surgical
correction of refractive errors of the eye are provided. Evaluation for refractive
surgery includes a complete ophthalmic examination with manifest
and cycloplegic refraction, external and slit lamp exam, applanation
tonometry, corneal pachymetry and dilated ophthalmoscopy. Special studies include
computerized corneal topography with the Orbscan Topographer and
Wavefront Testing. We are proud to offer the Bausch and Lomb
Technoloas 217 excimer laser technology to our patients.
Available procedures currently include excimer laser vision correction,
LASIK, PRK and LASEK.
Low Vision
The low vision
area provides a functional visual assessment of the low vision patient.
Management with low vision aides includes spectacle and hand-held
magnifiers, illuminated stand magnifiers, telescopes, tinted lenses,
prisms, closed circuit televisions and a variety of non-optical devices.
Patients commonly referred include those with visual loss secondary
to glaucoma, macular degeneration or diabetes.
Neuro-Ophthalmology
This specialty
area provides for the diagnosis and management of adults and children
with neuropathies, pupillary abnormalities, ocular motility disorders,
orbital diseases and headaches. Botulinum toxin injections are available
for the treatment of cranial dystonias and hemifacial spasms. Special
studies include eye movement recordings of complex ocular motility
disturbances and neuropsychological evaluations of the visual consequences
of structural and degenerative brain disorders.
Ocular Oncology
This specialty
area provides comprehensive, sophisticated diagnosis and management
of primary and metastatic tumors of the eyelid, eye, orbit and optic
nerve. Specialists manage patients with secondary ocular effects of
systemic tumors and their treatment (radiation or chemotherapy) complications.
Ocular Pathology
and Orbital Diseases
Services
include diagnostic pathologic evaluation of specimens from the eye,
eyelid and orbit. Total evaluation of fresh specimens and review of
microscopic slides can be provided. Special studies such as immunohistochemistry
and conjunctival cytology are available. Orbital conditions including
thyroid-related eye disease, exophthalmos, orbital inflammation and
tearing problems are also managed. Orbital and ocular
ultrasonography,
fine-needle aspiration biopsy and other specialized services are available.
Ophthalmic
Plastic/Reconsturctive
Surgery
Services in ophthalmic
plastic and reconstructive surgery for adults and children involve
the diagnosis and management of eyelid abnormalities including ptosis,
entropion, ectropion, eyelid tumors, congenital abnormalities, traumatic
injuries, tearing abnormalities. Orbital conditions, including thyroid
eye disease and orbital inflammations are managed as well. A variety
of cosmetic eyelid procedures are available.
Pediatric Ophthalmology
Comprehensive
pediatric eye care services by Rainbow Babies and Childrens' ophthalmologists
include the diagnosis and management of refractive errors, strabismus,
amblyopia and nasolacrimal obstruction. In addition, less common conditions
such as cataracts, glaucoma, congenital abnormalities, genetic disorders,
tumors and retinopathy of prematurity are managed. Adults with strabismus
and/or diplopia are also seen and treated.
Retina-Vitreous
This specialty
area offers consultation for the diagnosis and treatment of retinal,
choroidal and macular diseases, including retinal detachment, ocular
tumors, uveitis, endophthalmitis, intraocular foreign bodies and inherited
retinal degenerations. Surgery of the vitreous and retina is offered.
Physicians also evaluate and treat diabetic and other vitreoretinal
vascular diseases requiring argon or krypton laser treatment. Available
special studies include fundus photography, fluorescein angiography,
diagnostic ultrasound, color vision testing, ERG, EOG, Visual Evoked
Response and optical coherence tomography.
